About Paguera and surrounding area:

Paguera

Spectacular view over the bay of Paguera

Paguera Mallorca is the German stronghold par excellence. At the end of September, the Oktoberfest is largely celebrated here. Spaniards also come from all parts of the island to feast on German strong beer and eat the hearty pork knuckle with cabbage. Even the Mayor of Calvia, to which the municipality of Paguera belongs, cannot help but support the celebrations.

Even when walking through the town the signs on the cafes' “Homemade Pies" and announcements at restaurants of “German cuisine" indicate to which national clientele the advertising slogans are directed. The town itself exudes a certain comfortable calmness, suitable for Costa Calma, in which Paguera is located on the southwest of Mallorca. The hotels that do not protrude into the sky and the cozy small boarding houses are mainly occupied by families and seniors. The children play in the shallow sandy bay in the water or populate the numerous playgrounds with swings, slides and climbing ropes.

Paradise for hikers

Paguera is so popular with German tourists and for buying properties as it is a paradise for hikers. Those wanting to take things a little slower, can content themselves with a several kilometre-long beach walk. Here the walker can look out to the sea and then back to the surrounding pine-covered hills and the majestic Galatzò towering in the distance. Very well-marked hiking trails through the wooded hills offer options up to Camp de Mar, the finca formerly owned by Claudia Schiffer, and down to the sea. Here is an idyllic golf course is embedded in the landscape where each "hole" is named after a VIP, from Beckenbauer to Schiffer. For advanced hikers, there is a route from Paguera to the Finca Galatzó that lies at the foot of the Puig de Galatzó.

Here you walk in the footsteps of the "Comte mal", the "Haunted Graf," through the former lime kilns and Stone Age relics through the "garrigue", a growth of dwarf palm, reed, rock roses, heather and olive trees. The solitude is broken only occasionally by the wild goats bleating and the cawing of the crows.

Also not to be missed by most enthusiastic hikers is an evening visit to the "La Gran Tortuga." Here in the restaurant of the "Giant Turtle", which is located in a settlement built by an architect with original ideas for building houses, a well-prepared Mediterranean supper comes highly recommended.

Then, afterwards the liqueur connoisseur enjoys a drink on the terrace beside the sea in the sun, his hands folded over his stomach and muttering: "va bien" "all is well".
