Horse riding clubs in Mallorca
The island’s approximately 15 horse riding clubs offer a wonderful and very sociable alternative. This is especially true for those who do not keep their own horse or are unable to care for it on a regular basis. For a monthly fee, you can rent a stall at one of the riding clubs and, if required, your horse will be completely cared for, i.e. fed, mucked out and exercised.

Professional horse shows
The islanders are also great horse lovers: trotting is the national sport, with two trotting tracks in Palma and Manacor, and tournaments in show jumping, dressage, western riding, vaulting and carriage driving are regularly held in the island’s numerous riding clubs.
Learning to ride
But even for those who don’t own their own horse and still want to ride regularly, a riding club like this is a wonderful thing. Beautifully groomed school horses are available for riding lessons. Holidaymakers are also very welcome, and you can of course go on horseback rides, ‘for example to Bunyola, without crossing a single road,’ reports Alice von Gayling, who was born in Konstanz.
The Mallorca Riding Club as an international meeting place
The club is very international: Germans, English, Austrians, Swedes, French, Dutch and Hungarians have their horses stabled here, and English is spoken alongside Spanish. The club has a lively social life, with activities such as training courses taking place around the tournaments, and the occasional Olympic rider visiting. The summer camps for children aged six and above are also popular.
Bringing your horse to Mallorca
Of course, you can hire horses by the hour anywhere on the island and go on a ride, but keeping your own horse is something for the more discerning. How do you get your own horse to the island when you move there? Transport from Austria, for example, takes around 34 hours, during which the horses are unloaded three times so that they can move around, and the lorries are air-conditioned.
Of course, horses can also be purchased on the island. There are several private breeders who breed dressage horses, Arabians and trotters. Various vets take care of the horses and there are equine clinics, and horse insurance is also common in Mallorca.
