If a Majorca expert had to give one bay on the island the nickname of the most beautiful "bahia", then the bay idyll of Puerto de Pollensa, Port de Pollenca, characterised by its 10 km long sandy beach, would be a top choice. The English, who have always had a fondness for the most beautiful places in the world, discovered this early.
In the thirties, Sir Winston Churchill and the novelist Agatha Christie stayed in a villa in the small fishing village with its beautiful sandy beach on holiday in Port de Pollenca. These pioneers of holiday tourism were followed after the Second World War by more celebrities such as Aristotle Onassis and Grace Kelly, who also resided in one of the beautiful villas that started to spring up more and more on the hills in the area. The expansion of tourism then had the consequence that in addition to the tranquil little fishing cottage, chic hotels and luxury properties were built to meet the needs of discerning customers. Inaugurated in 1993, the "Real Club Nautic", which has now added many motor boats and sailing yachts to the decorative marina, has the good reputation of a fashionable harbour town, strengthened further now it almost has as many inhabitants as Pollensa itself.
Real Club Nautic in Puerto Pollensa
Puerto de Pollensa, between the two bays Victoria and Formentor in a wide bay, enchants with the charm of a Mediterranean village. Apartments with harbour views or an apartment on the famous Pine Walk or the Paseo de Voramar promenade are offered by real estate brokers as the top locations in Port de Pollensa. Here when something is for sale, it now quickly finds not only English prospects, but increasingly also German and Scandinavian homebuyers.
This Mediterranean flair can be particularly well experienced when enjoying the ‘catch of the day’, a crispy grilled fish eaten on the waterfront in a restaurant or an aperitif sipped at a bar under an umbrella. The view of the boats bobbing gently in the sea across to the peninsula of Formentor that writhe like a giant snake comfort and satisfy the viewer.
The tourist who views Puerto de Pollensa in the north of Majorca for a holiday home or a villa owner who has chosen the resort as their new centre of life, can do more than bathe and eat well here. The numerous sailors and surfers appreciate the constantly blowing sea winds in the Bahia . In "Sail and Surf Pollensa" beginners learn to surf, whilst experienced surfers expand their knowledge. Here sailing boats can also be chartered. In the Pro Dive diving school you can also acquire a diving license and participate in excursions to the caves and cliffs of Cap Formentor.
The Port of Pollensa is ideal for exploring the wild north coast with its islands and peninsulas with excursion boats. For a long time, due to the tradition of the past, Puerto de Pollensa has been popular with British tourists and British home owners.
