View on the marina and the luxury properties in Puerto de Andratx
Puerto de Andratx, Port d'Andratx in Majorcan, is one of the best and most spectacular natural harbours of Majorca, surrounded by beautiful bays like Cala Llamp, Cala Moragues and Cala d’Egos. This modern location, with its exceptionally villas and complexes and few luxury hotels, has developed from an inconsiderable fishing village to one of the most important and exclusive touristic centres, thanks to the nautical activities.
There are probably no more discernible areas in Mallorca than the two locations of Andratx and Puerto Andratx, and how their economic and social history have changed their priorities and development. Even three generations ago it was the case that the farmer, who had several sons, gave the fields by the sea to the less industrious and esteemed son. For these were salty and not very fertile. The fields that were further away from the sea, were much more productive.
Luxury sea view villa in Puerto Andratx
Today, everything concentrates towards the sea and a villa with a "vista al mar" is one of the prime locations in Majorca. It used to be quite different. The islanders sought away from the sea, to avoid danger as pirates, corsairs and buccaneers came with their boats and pillaged and plundered the country. In the bays, poor fishermen who lived in low hovels and survived through their fishing, went out with small boats on the dangerous sea. When danger threatened from the sea, the Atalayas, which are small stone towers, were ablaze with fire and then the residents fled to the nearest safe haven. Here in Andratx in 1236, the Gothic fortified church of "Santa Maria" was built. The church, which has almost no windows, but thick bare stone walls, looks more like a castle. Here, the residents were able to escape and defend themselves from pirate raids.
Andratx also has a real castle or rather a stately palace called "Palau de son Mas". Similar to the fortified church, this castle with its powerful, embattled tower, was built in the 19th century on the foundations of a Moorish fortress above the town of Andratx. Andratx itself, with its narrow winding streets has about 12,000 residents and wakes up every Wednesday from its rural tranquility when a huge weekly market attracts locals and tourists. Those who love nature and country life or short trips to the glamorous world of Port d'Andratx, should buy a finca or even a small house or villa in the lovely surroundings of the village.

Since then, the freeway that leads to the popular destination "Son Telmo", has been built, meaning the former traffic chaos in the narrow streets of Andratx has calmed down. The newly built road leads through the "Horta d'Andratx" to Port d'Andratx. This fertile garden landscape is a paradise for walkers – mainly during the almond blossom, where white and pink flowers alternate.
The marina Club de Vela with approx. 500 moorings is one of the best equipped on the Balearic Island and is nestled between steep hills with magnificent villas. Early in the morning, at sun rise, or at dawn, when the fishing boats return from labouring back to the harbour town of Andratx you find some of the charm of past days. The freshly caught fish are sold and nets are spread to dry. It is lovely to watch the nightly spectacle on the large outdoor terrace from the cappuccino bar with a glass of cava.
Marina in Puerto Andratx
Port d'Andratx has transformed over the years into a posh marina, with the chic, elegant moored boats. Their owners go out in the evening to the trendy bars and restaurants that are located around the harbour to dine. Villas and fincas on mountain ridges allow their owners to enjoy the magnificent views of the bay and the vast sea of Majorca. Due to the high number of German residents in these properties, it is also known as the "Düsseldorf hill", because you can meet many friends from the Königsallee on the promenade in the evening.
From the impressive luxury villas the Weil Studio stands out, which was built by star architect Daniel Libeskind for the American artist Barbara Weil. The all-white building of the villa fascinates with its unique shape and is certainly one of the most spectacular properties in Majorca. Port d'Andratx is one of the so-called top locations in Majorca. On average, a villa is situated in the southwest of Mallorca costs around 3 million euros, though the price-scale in the luxury real estate upwards is open. For a luxury villa with high quality designer fittings in Port d'Andratx on the seafront with a private beach, it may be sometimes even € 22,500 / sqm.
Right at the entrance to the resort, Porta Mallorquina in Puerto Andratx opened its real estate shop in August 2012 in Calle Saluet, whose spectacular design fits perfectly into the sophisticated ambience of galleries, bars and exclusive restaurants.
